Profile:
Karen Dar Woon, Your Secret Chef, has been cooking for over 30 years. Growing up
in a large extended family, Karen considered it “normal” that Christmas Dinner
was regularly for 40 or more people. Your Secret Chef provides meal preparation,
shopping and catering services for clients throughout the Lower Mainland, for
groups ranging from 1 to 200 guests. Karen is also the Biscotti Queen, producing
handmade mini-biscotti for fundraisers, corporate gifts, and for sale at gift
markets. She remains engaged in the restaurant industry, and maintains a
vibrant, collegial network.
Karen is a regular volunteer for Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, where she feeds
artists performing at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and answers the
office phone. Karen has particular interest in rustic and home-style cooking and
with being connected with her food. She maintains an allotment at a downtown
Vancouver community garden, sharing a portion of the harvest at the weekly
Community Meal she cooks. Unusual venues where Karen has served dinner include
the portable kitchen at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival (10,000 meals in 72
hours), backstage at the Chan Centre (buffet for 12, with only a microwave!) and
outside the Museum of Anthropology at UBC (bbq salmon for 900)
Karen is a member of the US Personal Chefs Association.
